SCHOUTEDEN'S SWIFT Schoutedenapus schoutedeni

Schouteden's Swift

Adults

Map, Schouteden's Swift

The Schouteden's Swift is found in the east-central Congo

This unknown swift is known from only five adults collected from the Itombwe Mountains and the Kamituga area, between Lake Kivu and Lake Tanganyika in eastern Congo. For details of dates and locations, see below.

It is very similar in size to the the Scarce Swift Schoutedenapus myioptilus, and is separated from this species by having a uniformly blackish face. (Not greyish brown face with a velvety black spot in front of the eye).

Birds from Mubandakila was collected in November 1956, from Butokolo in October 1959 at 1.470 meters altitude. I do not at this time have dates and altitude from Bionga and Kamituga.
