Checklist to the birds of Garamba N.P.

By Tommy Pedersen

A total of 339 species is known from this area, as of February 20th, 1999.

The systematics follows Voous (1977) as described in "A contribution to the Distribution and Taxonomy of Afrotropical and Malagasy birds" by R.J.Dowsett & F.Dowsett-Lemaire (1993).

The description of subspecies follows Keith, Urban & Fry; The Birds of Africa, Vol. 1 - 5, and Howard & Moore; A Checklist to the Birds of the World (1991).

Names written in small letters are subspecies of the preceding species.

The list is based on the checklist of Garamba, compiled by A.K.Kes Smith, 1994, and on my trip with M.Languy and L.Esselen in February 1994, and observations from February 1996 by Marco Sacchi & P.Rüegg.

The status of each species is subjective, due to irregular coverage during any year, but is nevertheless included. Most birding has been done in the month of February, and this is clearly seen in the checklist.

The Checklist is now being converted to Voous (1977), and will appear here later.
